5 Handy Tips for your Stag Party in Cardiff

As the capital of Wales, it’s not hard to see why Cardiff is a top choice for a stag do. With tourist attractions including Cardiff castle, the Millennium Centre and the National Gallery there’s plenty to see and do, but what do you need to know before your trip? Here are 5 handy tips for your stag party in Cardiff.

Although at first attempting to recreate the Welsh language might be hard, the longer you stay the harder it is to stop yourself. If you’ve ever seen Gavin and Stacey you might already know some Welsh slang, but here’s some you’ll definitely want to learn:

  • “Alright or Wah?” – Hello
  • “Lush” – Very nice
  • “I’m not being funny” – I’m about to say something serious
  • “Now after” – In the future
  • “Tamping” – Furious
  • “Now in a minute” – imminent
  • “Bap” – Bread roll
  • Adding an “S” to most words – it doesn’t mean(s) anything(s), it’s just what people(s) in Cardiff do, like.

In Cardiff it likes to rain, a lot. I’d advise packing a waterproof (preferably one you can keep in your bag at all times) in case the heavens decide to open whilst you’re out on the town!

If you’re after some grub in central Cardiff there are plenty of good options. From Latin American “Las Iguanas” to the “Gateway of India” Curry house there are lots of great restaurants to visit. However, the people of Cardiff’s favourite takeaway item is the “Half and Half” which is half rice, half chips and is normally ordered with curry sauce, ingenious.

If you’re feeling really adventurous too, why not venture down “Chip Alley” for that all important belly buster!

There are three main areas to go to in Cardiff if you’re looking for a good night out in the bars and clubs.

The first area is the “West End” and includes the Mocka Lounge, Reflex, Revolution and Walkabout.

If you decide to go to the “East End” then you can visit Fat Cats, Pryzm or the Live Lounge, or if you’re looking for a club with a difference then you definitely need to head to Tiger Tiger.

If you head over to “Cardiff Bay & Mermaid Quay”  area of Cardiff you can visit Terra Nova, Salt or the “VIP Piano Lounge”.

Places to go/Things to see

Should you want to take in a game of football whilst there, Cardiff City FC will be your best bet, or simply take a tour around Cardiff Arms Park, the Ex home of the Fa Cup final whilst Wembley was being rebuilt, and is the current home to the Welsh Rugby team. Cardiff Sports Centre in Cardiff Bay houses an Olympic standard swimming pool, an ice rink and a white water canoeing and kayaking centre where you can take part in various activities or just take a walk around, either way it’s worth a visit!

If you’re not into your football or rugby, the there are plenty of places to visit during your stag party in Cardiff including the famous arts centre, The Millennium Centre. Located in Cardiff Bay the Millennium Centre is a well-known tourist attraction consisting of a large theatre with 2 smaller halls and the rest is filled with shops, restaurants and bars.

All in all, Cardiff is a great location for your stag party. If you’d like more information then download our Cardiff City Guide or talk to one of our party planners on 0115 941 5282 and they’d be happy to discuss your options with you.
